With a completely silent heater, the power supply or a fuse is usually the first suspect. Also check that the thermostat is set to heating and that there is enough gas or diesel available.
Not every fault is immediately serious, but a heater that doesn't work makes your motorhome unusable in cold periods. A systematic check helps to find the cause, and starts with the simplest points: power supply, fuses, fuel and thermostat.
Adria installs a Truma Combi heater in most campervans and motorhomes, which runs on gas or diesel. On higher-end models, such as the Adria Sonic or Matrix, an Alde water heating system is sometimes used. Each system has its own typical faults, but the basic checks are similar.
First, check that the appliance has power. A flat leisure battery or a blown fuse is quickly found. With gas heating, an empty or frozen gas bottle is a classic, as is a dirty burner or a faulty ignition. With diesel heating, the fuel pump can seize or the glow plug may be worn. With Alde systems, a cold radiator often points to air in the circuit or a faulty circulation pump.

A simple clean or replacing a fuse costs a few tens of euros. A new ignition unit or glow plug usually costs between 100 and 250 euros, including labour. With a faulty Alde circulation pump or a dirty burner chamber, the bill can rise to 400 to 600 euros. If the circuit board or the complete burner needs replacing, it often becomes more economical to look at another camper.
