When an LMC lets in water, the damage is rarely coincidental. The leak almost always follows a known pattern that depends on the year of manufacture.

When an LMC lets in water, the damage is rarely coincidental. The leak almost always follows a known pattern that depends on the year of manufacture. First have a targeted moisture measurement carried out on the typical weak points such as roof edges, roof hatches and window rubbers. Only then can you decide whether repair is worthwhile or whether selling to a buyer is the best route.
LMC is known for its solid construction, but no brand is immune to water damage. Models from the 2000s in particular can suffer from leaking roof seams or ageing sealant. Always have the extent objectively assessed first before deciding on repair or sale.
LMC campers generally have a good reputation for watertightness, but as with any brand, there are specific areas of concern. The most common weak points are the roof edges, the rooflight seal, the window rubbers, and the seams around the body. Especially on older models, the sealant can dry out and crack, allowing moisture to slowly penetrate.
A moisture reading is the only way to be sure. A professional reading will indicate whether there are elevated moisture levels in the walls or roof. With an LMC, it is wise to pay extra attention to the corners of the roof and the areas around the rooflights, as these are where the seals age first. For more on the general approach, see our explanation of camper roof leaks and moisture damage.
Minor leaks, such as a worn rubber or a loose sealant seam, are often relatively easy to fix. But once moisture has penetrated the insulation or wood, it becomes a different story. The wall or roof then needs to be opened up locally, dried, and rebuilt. Costs can quickly escalate, especially if it is an older model.
For an LMC with extensive water damage, it is therefore wise to realistically assess the market value. A camper with a history of damp is simply worth less, and repair costs often do not outweigh the added value. In that case, selling to a buyer can be an attractive way out. We also buy LMC campers with water damage, without you having to invest any more. More information can be found on our page selling your LMC.
Water damage has a direct impact on the trade-in or resale value of your LMC. A camper with a history of damp is harder to sell to private buyers, and dealers often pass on high repair costs. By selling your camper to a buyer, you avoid that discussion and know exactly where you stand.
