A Rimor with damp walls or a musty smell almost always points to a leak around the roof edge, roof hatches, or sealant seams.

A Rimor with damp walls or a musty smell almost always points to a leak around the roof edge, roof hatches, or sealant seams. First, have a damp test carried out to determine the extent. Small leaks can sometimes still be repaired, but if damp has penetrated the walls or floor, the bill quickly adds up. In that case, selling is often the most realistic option.
Not every damp patch means the end of your motorhome, but with a Rimor it's important to act quickly because the structure is partly made of wood.
Rimor campers are known for their functional layout and sharp pricing, but in terms of watertightness, they score variably. The most commonly reported issues are located at the roof edge, around roof hatches, and at the window rubbers. Especially models from before 2010 more often suffer from failing sealant seams. A thorough check for roof leaks and moisture damage is therefore not an unnecessary luxury.
A moisture meter is your best friend. Measure not only visible spots, but also suspicious areas such as around the corner profiles, under the windows, and in the garage. Values above 20 percent in wood-based panels indicate an active leak. If in doubt, have a professional moisture measurement carried out, because the damage often lies deeper than you think.
A local leak at a roof hatch or window rubber can sometimes still be remedied with a new sealant edge or rubber. But once the moisture has penetrated the wall or floor insulation, it becomes a different story. Then the interior lining must be removed, the wood must be replaced or dried, and the bill can quickly rise to several thousand euros. Moreover, there always remains a risk of hidden mould or a recurring leak.
Also take into account the impact on the market value of your motorhome. A moisture history significantly reduces the price, even after a correct repair. Buyers are rightly cautious. If the repair costs are not proportionate to the value of the camper, it is wiser to consider selling.
For a Rimor with serious water damage, a thorough repair is often no longer economically viable. The material costs alone can exceed the residual value of the vehicle. In that case, selling to a buyer specialised in campers with damage is a realistic way out.
