An Adria that cools on gas but not on 230V usually has a faulty heating element or a tripped circuit breaker. But if the boiler audibly ignites and still no hot water comes out, this often points to a stuck safety valve or a problem with the gas ignition.

An Adria that cools on gas but not on 230V usually has a faulty heating element or a tripped circuit breaker. But if the boiler audibly ignites and still no hot water comes out, this often points to a stuck safety valve or a problem with the gas ignition.
The exact diagnosis depends on the type of boiler and the energy source you use. Sometimes it's a simple setting, but it could equally mean an expensive part needs replacing.
Adria installs a Truma Combi in most campervans and motorhomes, a combi boiler that both heats and produces hot water. On the more expensive models and integral vehicles, there is often an Alde system (central heating boiler on gas and/or electricity) or a separate Truma boiler. The symptoms are similar: you turn on the tap, but the water remains cold or lukewarm.
Start by checking the power supply. Is the boiler switched on at 230V? Has the fuse in the campervan not tripped? If on gas: is the gas bottle open and is there sufficient pressure? Also check that the boiler is not in 'winter mode' or 'heating only', as then the water will not be heated.
For more background on how a campervan boiler works and why it does not produce hot water, please read our general explanation about boilers without hot water.
A new heating element for a Truma costs roughly between 80 and 150 euros, excluding installation. A new burner or gas block can cost up to 300 to 500 euros. With an Alde system, parts are often more expensive and labour is more intensive. For a diagnosis at a dealer, expect to pay around 75 to 100 euros per hour. Sometimes the issue is solved with a simple reset or descaling, but if the circuit board or heat exchanger is broken, the bill can quickly escalate.
Are you unsure whether an expensive repair is still worthwhile? Then it might be a good time to check the market value of your motorhome. A campervan with a faulty boiler is worth less, but we would still be happy to buy it from you.
