An LMC is typically equipped with a Truma Combi (gas or diesel) or, on higher models, an Alde water heating system. Most faults are easy to diagnose, but sometimes professional help is needed.
LMC has been fitting reliable heating systems for years, but even these can develop faults. The most common system is the Truma Combi, which runs on gas or diesel and heats both air and water. In more expensive A-class and semi-integrated motorhomes, an Alde system is often used, a central heating boiler on gas or diesel with radiators and underfloor heating. The approach differs by type.
If a Truma Combi stays cold or cuts out, first check the gas or diesel supply. Is the gas bottle empty, is the gas tap open, can you hear the diesel pump? Then look at error codes on the display. A flashing code often points to an ignition problem or a blocked combustion air intake. Remove leaves, dust, or insect nests from the inlet. A dirty burner or worn ignition electrode is a classic after several years of heavy use.
Costs for a simple clean or sensor replacement usually range from 100 to 300 euros, depending on the part and the workshop. A new burner or circuit board can cost up to 800 euros or more. With an Alde system, you should hear the circulation pump running softly. If it does not, the pump is often faulty or there is air in the circuit. Bleed the radiators and top up the expansion tank with the correct fluid. Also check the thermostat and the room temperature sensor. A faulty pump costs roughly 200 to 400 euros including fitting. If heating fluid is leaking, a pipe or coupling has split; that is usually a job costing 150 to 500 euros.
