Bürstner boiler not producing hot water? Here's what you can do

Bürstner has been building campers with reliable hot water systems for years. In most models you'll find a Truma Combi (combi boiler for heating and hot water), while the more expensive ranges often have an Alde system. Sometimes you'll also come across a separate Truma water heater. Each system has its own typical faults.

Most common causes per energy source

Depending on how you try to heat the boiler, the causes can differ:

• On gas: no gas pressure, air in the pipe, faulty ignition or a dirty burner. Check whether the gas hob works.
• On 230V: often a burnt-out heating element or a faulty thermostat. Measure the resistance of the element.
• On 12V: this is usually only for the control; the actual heating is done on gas or 230V. A flat leisure battery can block the electronics.
• General: a closed or leaking pressure relief valve, a blocked mixer tap or a faulty circuit board.

What does a repair realistically cost?

A new heating element for a Truma Combi typically costs between 100 and 200 euros, excluding installation. A new circuit board can cost up to 400 to 600 euros. With an Alde system, parts are often more expensive and labour time is longer. Expect to pay 80 to 120 euros per hour for a diagnosis at a dealer. Sometimes the issue is simple: a loose plug or a dirty sensor.
