Sometimes a sticking non-return valve in the cold water connection blocks the flow, or the mixer tap is set just a bit too far towards cold. So first check whether the boiler itself gets hot and whether the hot water pipe isn't accidentally getting cold water mixed in.
The exact cause depends on the type of system (Truma Combi, Alde or a separate boiler) and whether you heat on gas, 230V or both. With a systematic check per power source and a visual inspection of the water hoses, you'll usually find it quickly, without immediately replacing expensive parts.
Knaus has been installing various hot water systems for years, depending on the model and year of construction. The most common is the Truma Combi, a combination boiler that both heats and produces hot water on gas and/or 230V. In the more expensive ranges, such as the Knaus Sun TI or StarClass, there is often an Alde system with a separate boiler or a tankless water heater. Older or more compact models sometimes have a separate Truma boiler (e.g. Truma Boiler Elektro or Gas).
The first step is to determine which system you have and which energy source you are using. Does it not work on gas but does it work on electricity, or vice versa? That already says a lot. Then always check the fuses (12V and 230V), the gas pressure and whether there is enough water in the system. An empty boiler or a closed safety valve can also be the cause.
With an Alde system it works slightly differently: the circulation pump must be running and the glycol level must be correct. An air bubble in the heat exchanger can also cause cold water. If in doubt, consult our general explanation about boilers without hot water for a more in-depth diagnosis.
The costs depend on the part. A new heating element for a Truma Combi costs roughly between 150 and 300 euros, an ignition unit 100 to 200 euros, and a circuit board can go up to 400 euros or more. Add 1 to 2 hours of labour at 60 to 90 euros per hour. Sometimes, however, it is a matter of descaling or a new safety valve costing 30 to 60 euros. Always have a diagnosis done first before ordering expensive parts.
