A water pump in a camper that stops delivering water while the tank is full often points to an electrical interruption or a clogged filter.

A water pump in a camper that stops delivering water while the tank is full often points to an electrical interruption or a clogged filter. So first check the fuse and wiring, and see if the filter in the pump or at the tank inlet is not blocked. Then bleed the system via the tap and test the pressure switch.
In most cases, a non-working water pump is due to an empty tank, a dirty filter, or an electrical problem such as a blown fuse. Sometimes the pump itself is faulty and needs to be replaced.
A water pump that doesn't pump, keeps running, or makes strange noises is a common problem in motorhomes. Fortunately, with a systematic approach, you can often find the cause yourself. Always start with the simplest checks, as these solve the problem in most cases.
First, check whether there is water in the tank and whether the tank vent is not blocked. An empty tank or a vacuum in the tank will prevent the pump from drawing water. Then check the fuse for the water pump; a blown fuse is quickly replaced. If the pump runs but no water comes out, there is probably air in the pipes or the filter is blocked.
A pump that keeps running but does not build up pressure can also indicate a leak in the system or a faulty diaphragm in the pump. Check all hoses and fittings for moisture. If the pump is very noisy, it may be loose or the rubber damping material may be worn. In that case, it can help to retighten the pump or fit new dampers.
The cost of a new water pump is usually between 80 and 200 euros, depending on the type and capacity. A pressure switch costs around 20 to 40 euros. If you have the repair carried out, labour costs will be added. With an older motorhome, it may be more worthwhile to look at the bigger picture, especially if there are also problems with the leisure battery or other systems. In some cases, the repair costs exceed the value of the motorhome, and it is wiser to consider selling it. Also take into account the maintenance budget in the longer term.
