A Challenger that delivers no hot water on any setting often has an interrupted power supply or a stuck fuse in the boiler compartment.

A Challenger that delivers no hot water on any setting often has an interrupted power supply or a stuck fuse in the boiler compartment. With a Truma Combi, a flashing red LED usually indicates an ignition fault, while an Alde system more often suffers from an air bubble in the circulation pipe or a faulty pump.
Not every Challenger model uses the same hot water system. Most newer Challengers are equipped with a Truma Combi (gas and/or electric), while the higher segments often have an Alde system with a separate boiler. Older models may have a separate Truma boiler (e.g., Truma Boiler Electro). The diagnosis therefore depends on the type of system in your camper.
Challenger has been building motorhomes with reliable hot water systems for years, but even those can develop faults. The most common system in recent models is the Truma Combi, a combi boiler that both heats the motorhome and provides domestic hot water. In the more expensive versions (such as the Challenger Graphite or Luxe), there is often an Alde system with a separate boiler that works via a heat exchanger. Older or more compact models sometimes have a standalone Truma boiler (e.g. the Truma Boiler Elektro or the Truma Therme).
Depending on the system, the approach differs. Below are the most common causes per power source.
When running on gas, there are a few classic culprits:
Does the boiler not work on campsite electricity or via an inverter? Then check:
Some systems can also produce hot water while driving (e.g. via a heat exchanger on the engine). Then check the 12V power supply fuse and whether the circulation pump (in Alde systems) is running. An air lock in the circuit can block the pump; bleeding the system is then the solution.

The cost of a repair varies greatly. A new heating element for a Truma costs roughly between 100 and 250 euros, excluding installation. A new ignition unit is in the same price range. With an Alde system, a faulty pump or circuit board can be more expensive, expect 200 to 500 euros or more. Always have a motorhome technician diagnose the issue before ordering parts.
