With a Truma Combi, a flashing red LED usually indicates an ignition fault, while an Alde system more often suffers from an air bubble in the circulation pipe or a faulty pump.
Not every Challenger model uses the same hot water system. Most newer Challengers are equipped with a Truma Combi (gas and/or electric), while the higher segments often have an Alde system with a separate boiler. Older models may have a separate Truma boiler (e.g., Truma Boiler Electro). The diagnosis therefore depends on the type of system in your camper.

Some systems can also produce hot water while driving (e.g. via a heat exchanger on the engine). Then check the 12V power supply fuse and whether the circulation pump (in Alde systems) is running. An air lock in the circuit can block the pump; bleeding the system is then the solution.

The cost of a repair varies greatly. A new heating element for a Truma costs roughly between 100 and 250 euros, excluding installation. A new ignition unit is in the same price range.
