An ice-cold shower in your LMC camper rarely points to one universal cause. In LMC campers, the problem often lies in the Truma Combi or an older separate boiler: an empty tank, a faulty heating element, a fault in the gas ignition, or a tilted safety valve. First check the water supply and the fuses, then try resetting the boiler. For older units, replacement is sometimes more cost-effective than repair.
LMC typically installs Truma Combi units for hot water and heating, sometimes an Alde system in higher segments, and in older models a separate Truma boiler. The diagnosis depends on the energy source used: gas, electricity, or both.
An LMC camper without hot water is annoying, but the cause is often quickly found. LMC usually uses a Truma Combi (combination of heater and boiler), on more expensive models an Alde system with central heating boiler and hot water tank, and in older campers a separate Truma boiler (e.g. Truma Boiler Elektro or Gas). The operation differs per type, but the basic checks are similar.
Always start with the simplest things:
With a Truma Combi on gas, you should normally hear an ignition spark and then a blue flame. No ignition? Check the gas bottle, the gas tap to the appliance and the 12V supply. Sometimes the ignition electrode is dirty or worn. On 230V, the Combi works with an electric heating element; measure the resistance of the element (usually around 50-70 ohms) or have it checked. With an Alde system, the water is heated by the central heating boiler; check whether the circulation pump is running and whether there is sufficient glycol in the system. A separate Truma boiler often has its own switch and its own fuse; consult the manual for the exact location.
The costs depend on the part and the labour hours. A new heating element costs roughly between 100 and 250 euros, an ignition electrode 30 to 80 euros, and a safety valve 20 to 50 euros. Add 1 to 2 hours of labour at 60 to 90 euros per hour. In case of a faulty circuit board or a leaking boiler, the bill can rise to 500 euros or more. Sometimes it is more economical to replace an older appliance with a reconditioned one.
