A professional moisture measurement is the only way to be sure. With a moisture meter, we probe suspicious spots in the wall or roof. Values below 15% are normal, between 15 and 20% is suspicious, and above 20% indicates active moisture. For a Pilote with a wooden frame, that is bad news: the wood will rot and lose its strength. The repair costs then quickly escalate. Resealing a roof edge may cost you 300 to 600 euros, but replacing a rotten roof section including insulation and interior lining can easily amount to 2,000 to 4,000 euros, depending on the model and labour hours.
