You turn on the tap and the water remains ice cold, while your Hymer's boiler normally provides reliable hot water.

You turn on the tap and the water remains ice cold, while your Hymer's boiler normally provides reliable hot water. With a Truma Combi this often points to a faulty ignition or a broken heating element, while an Alde system more often suffers from a stuck circulation pump or a faulty heating element. A defective safety valve can also be the culprit.
The exact diagnosis depends on the type of boiler and the energy source used (gas, electric or both).
Hymer typically installs a Truma Combi, a combination boiler that runs on both gas and 230V. In the higher segments, an Alde water heating system is sometimes used, which heats the water via a central heating boiler on gas or electricity. Older models may have a separate Truma boiler. The most common causes of no hot water are:
For a detailed explanation of all possible causes and solutions, please refer to our general page about a camper boiler that does not produce hot water.
On gas: do you hear a clicking sound when igniting? If not, the ignition electrode may be dirty or faulty. Also check that the gas bottle is not empty and the gas tap is open. A common problem is a blocked gas line or a faulty gas pressure regulator.
On 230V: if the boiler works on gas but not on electricity, the heating element is often broken. This element is a wear part and can be replaced. In an Alde system, the circulation pump can also be the culprit.
On 12V: the boiler itself usually does not run on 12V, but the control and the pump (in Alde) do. A flat leisure battery or a faulty fuse can therefore also be the cause.
The cost depends on the part and the hourly rate of the motorhome technician. A new heating element for a Truma Combi costs roughly between 100 and 200 euros, excluding installation. A new ignition electrode is cheaper, expect 30 to 80 euros. In an Alde system, a new circulation pump can cost several hundred euros. Always have a diagnosis carried out by a certified technician to avoid unnecessary costs.
